Sentimental Collage

Images from my Inner Cosmos
I feel we all have a private universe within ourselves, one composed of our consciousness and our memories. It is an “Inner Cosmos” that holds all that we see, all that we experience, and all that we are. These memories and experiences change slowly over time, coming together to narrate a story that is unique to our inner universe. It’s a transitory and ephemeral tale - like a comet streaking across the heavens.

Gathering Fragments of Memory
Even in our imaginations, there are fleeting appearances of recollections and fantasies which stream across our minds as dreamlike visitations of shadows, light, shapes, and colors. All too soon the true form is lost and only something vague and haunting remains. These fragments, collected and arranged, are reborn as something new - an expression of art.

Tales of the Inner Cosmos
In my fourth online exhibition, “Stories from Inner Space,” I invite you to view my works and allow them to take you into the universe of your memories and emotions. It is my sincerest wish that these works help you enjoy your journey through your Inner Cosmos.

When I lived in the Kansai region, I would frequently visit Kyoto and I hold fond memories of the city. When a friend recently shared a photograph with me, the sights and sounds of Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital, rushed back into my mind and I heard the rustling river and remembered the unique beauty of Kyoto’s cherry blossom season. I wanted to set these memories to my canvas and rushed to pick up my brush and paint.

A client commissioned a painting of the Tsuta Onsen, surprising and amusing me as I had stood in that very location some 20 years prior. The Tsuta Onsen is a secluded hot spring with a single inn which stands directly across from the Tsuta pond. The pond, framed by an expansive beech forest, is calm and clear with the surrounding autumn leaves reflected upon its mirror-like surface. Their vivid colors shine from the water like the energy that is welling up from the earth.

Our memories can waver and change as time passes by, likewise our recollections can spark fresh perspectives to the stories we hold in our inner selves, the tales that make us who we are within our deepest silences. I am pleased to present 10 works that weave my tale, a story of my inner cosmos. I hope they will inspire each viewer to take an appreciative journey through their own cosmos.

Aquatic Planet

2022.4.2

Humans are all drawn to the familiar landscape of water, it is there that we see the reflections of our innermost thoughts. This universe of the self, the one we hold within our mind, flows into the universe without. This inner-self spills over its banks and becomes a river into the sky, rippling out into infinity. As homage to this eternal relationship with water, we have selected these 10 works.

A Gift from the Moon

2021.9.22

“Moon” is the theme of this online exhibition. The works herein either directly depict the moon and its transitory stages, or invites the viewer’s imagination to infer the Moon from the rendering of its light across a brightened night sky. My hope is that my viewers will see my works and understand the influence the moonlight held over my heart and imagination.

2020 was a year where we saw many drastic changes sweep through our lives. In this turbulent time, I revisited familiar sights and locations with a fresh perspective, leading to new discoveries. Tokyo is a city adrift and thriving in the magic of transition, changing with each passing moment. I’m pleased to be able to present my beloved city in my heartfelt creations.
