I found these strikingly colored leaves in a park beside the sea. They stood out so vividly against a grey winter landscape and I couldn’t help but to come closer to study them. The backs of the leaves were white, which caused the front of the leaves to present a white border – their vivid presence remains strong in my memory to this day. In this composition I wanted to use a more traditional Japanese color-scheme to portray and share those leaves and the memory of that winter day.
