I fell in love at the first sight of a frame and decided to paint a composition to match it. The handmade texture of the smooth and uneven wood created a warm surface that mingled well with the colors used to bring out the detailing; a base coating of vermillion peeked out from the black and gold detailing. As I gazed at the frame, an image of a single, perfect crimson rose filled my mind and became the subject of this work. I used a background of layered gold and lighter shadings for the background’s faux-gilded finish.
