This piece was inspired by a visit to an aquarium where a display caught my eye and thoughts. The drifting kelp and plant life seemed to me as if they harbored human-shapes, leading me to paint sea nymphs at play within their underwater forest. The shallow depths draw in the light, changing its color, and all plants and creatures are nourished by its warming gifts. For me, the most challenging part of this piece’s creation was capturing a sense of motion and I used the outline of leaves scattered on the piece to help convey depth.
