I wanted to recreate a scene offering a glimpse of warmth against the backdrop of a cold winter. A crescent moon illuminates a frigid night sky while a snow-covered zelkova seems to casts its own faint light. To better convey the glimmer of the snow I used ground mica, which is a mineral sometimes used in traditional Japanese art, and dusted it lightly over the painting.
